Richard Pryor: 12/01/1940 - 12/10/2005 --- Bill Hicks: 12/16/1961- 02/26/1994



Apparently it's DEAD HERO WEEK here at Copenhagen Interpretation. Lennon, Pryor & Hicks all in the same week. Granted, some are birthdates, some are deathdates, but whatever.

Pryor was one side of the Holy Trinity of stand-up comedy: Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor & George Carlin. They were trail-blazers... pioneers... they did more for stand-up comedy and social commentary than anyone that followed them....with one prodigy apprentice, one Lebron James to Michael Jordan.... the only worthy successor: Bill Hicks. If Hicks had been recognized in his time, he'd be publicly lauded as the funniest, most abrasive, most accurate, & most important comic & social commentator of them all.

But fuck all this shit....attempting to summarize the work of geniuses.... it's all a half-assed, bullshit footnote.

If you don't already know, and you never end up getting it..then fuck you. You're a lesser person without them, and your soul is lacking. Learn their work.

This week, Lennon was murdered, Pryor died of a heart attack & Hicks was born.

Bruce destroyed by the government, Lennon & Marley shot, Pryor feared for a black face spewing human truth & Hicks;... the most important....the one with the most to teach... censored by the networks, erased from national TV and relegated to obscurity. He spent 16 fucking years on tour as a stand-up comic, appeared on Letterman and on 4 HBO specials, and most people STILL have no idea who he is.

Just another dead hero.

If I may quote Bob Marley (someone else who belongs on that list): "How long must they kill our prophets, while we stand aside and look?"
