Living with gay men can be entertaining. And then there's the nights when you realize that some of them are far more girly then any of the women you know, and worse than that, that they will feel more emotion for Sweeps Week than for something really important. I cooked again tonight; pork chops, mashed potatoes, sweet peas, corn, cornbread and red wine. I talked them into watching Bowling For Columbine while I was cooking, then they wanted to watch Extreme Makeovers: Home Edition while we ate. I conceded and we turned it on. The producers sent a family to Disneyland while they completely remodeled their home, then brought them back when it was all done. The first 20 minutes of the show is of the home and yards being upgraded and refined, then the last 10 minutes is the family's reaction to their brand new home and brand new property value. One of my roomates (the one with the least amount of testosterone) was actually brought to tears when he saw the family's reaction, and used his napkin with the BBQ sauce stains to wipe the tears from his cheeks.

He'll cry for Extreme Makeovers, but paid no attention to Bowling For Columbine. Anyone not completely addicted to mainstream media and reality television should be able to tell the difference. Maybe it's just me being elitist, but it makes me really fucking cynical about the mental state of the American public, and fearful of our limited cultural opportunity for future mental expansion.
